Mumbling Brady's contempt for his victims: Moors murderer says slaughter of five children was 'petty' and claims he is no worse than a politician as he is seen in public for first time in decades

Brady (pictured in a mugshot in 1966, left) went before a mental health tribunal today toask for the right to die in prison (sketched by court artist, right). Now 75, the notorious child killer has beenforce-fed for more than a decade after going on hunger strike to protest at his treatment in a secure mental hospital. Grey-haired, wearingdark glasses and with a feeding tube taped to his nose, Brady mumbled as he spoke to the judge and made notes with his right hand. The hearing is taking place behind closed doors at Ashworth Hospital on Merseyside. However, the proceedings arebeing relayed by video-link torelatives of the children killed by Brady and his accomplice Myra Hindley (inset). Hindley died in prison in 2002.
